|Job Description||GB Railfreight currently seek 3 x Rail Operator to be predominantly based at either our Parkston yard or Whitemoor depot or Tilbury, Essex corridor, however the role may also involve working in surrounding areas. Working a shift based roster on a nominal 40 hours per week, a Rail Operator will receive a basic salary of £28,800k plus first class staff benefits.
There is an initial training salary of £15,000, however this increases to the full salary once the candidate has been passed out as competent to fulfil the role as Rail Operator.
We are seeking safety focused and dynamic individuals to join our team and support GBRf in our commitment to deliver a safe, reliable and best in class service to our NDS and Carless customers. Training will be provided for candidates that have the right skills and aptitude for the position.
Responsible for the safe preparation of the train ready for its departure. The successful candidates will marshal and dispatch trains in a safe, punctual and efficient manner in accordance with GBRf and Railway rules and regulations. They will also drive trains at off network locations. Liaising with GBRf Train Managers (Drivers), signallers and contractor representatives you will ensure customer requirements are met and trains are prepared efficiently to time.
This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals wishing to start their career within the railway and could lead to exciting development prospects including promotion to a fully qualified Train Driver position if the right skill, competence and commitment is proven over time.
Previous operational / Ground staff / shunting experience would be desirable
Experience in a physical and safety critical role
GCSE in English and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent)
Customer focused with experience gained in a Customer facing environment
Fast learner, both hands on and in a class room setting
Competent using an IPAD and ability to download applications (APPs)
Fire and First aid trained
Able to multi-task and make quick decisions for short notice changes to train plans.
Ability to work independently and on your own initiative.
Excellent and clear communication skills to relay important safety messages to your colleagues.
Safety conscious and ability to remain calm in an event of an emergency situation.
Flexible attitude to working hours as this is a shift based role on a nominal 40 hour week over 7 days per week.
Willingness to travel to other GBRf sites and locations within the area
A clean full UK driving licence
As part of the selection process candidates will also be required to attend a railway standards new entrant medical and D&A test.
